By examining the cases of a few surgeons at Massachusetts General Hospital who practice double-booking of surgeries, a Boston Globe investigation published Oct. 25 asks the question: “Is it right or safe for surgeons to run two operations at once?” A prestigious surgeon at MGH who opposes the practice of simultaneous surgery – also known as “concurrency” – has been dismissed, and there is a continuing “struggle few outside MGH and its parent company, Partners HealthCare, know anything about.”
