Domestic violence statutes for repeat offenders go ignored in Colorado

Habitual domestic violence offenders are rarely charged under a state statute providing for felony prosecution of a defendant with three prior domestic abuse midmeanors, according to a Denver Post review of state court records.  Some prosecutors say they don’t use the law because it is “ineffective.”

There have been just 155 convictions of domestic violence habitual offenders on felony charges in Colorado in the past 15 years….. That's just over 10 per year.
