The Department of Defense and the Jersey Guard paid the New York Jets $377,500 between 2011 and 2014 for featuring a “Hometown Heroes” segment during football games at their MetLife Stadium, according to federal contracts reviewed by NJ.com. The Jets are one of 14 NFL teams to receive money from the Department of Defense for military salutes and advertising.

From the story:

U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.)...called out the Jets' agreement as wasteful and disingenuous.

"Those of us go to sporting events and see them honoring the heroes….You get a good feeling in your heart. Then [you find the team is] compensated for it….It seems a little unseemly."
