Work for NECIR
The New England Center for Investigative Reporting (NECIR) is a nonprofit investigative reporting newsroom based at Boston University and the studios of WGBH News. Our mission is to ensure the survival of serious, in-depth investigative journalism and to train a new generation of investigative reporters.
Description
The Audience Engagement Intern will work closely with the Audience Engagement Director to build the reputation and exposure of the center by managing and generating content for its social-media platforms — including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
We're looking for a self-starter who loves journalism and is looking for extensive hands-on experience in multimedia reporting and marketing — writing, photography, video and interactive media.
You will be working on the cutting edge of new-media storytelling, and there will be many opportunities for you to propose new ideas and take on real responsibilities.
Tasks could include writing blog posts and stories, managing social media accounts, creating infographics, researching potential partner organizations and pitching stories to major media outlets.

- Web research skills
- Strong knowledge of current events and investigative journalism
- Experience with social media tools, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
- Familiarity with OSX, Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong visual experience, including Photoshop or InDesign, as well as experience with photography and video editing
- Initiative to propose new ideas and projects
