Some Milwaukee residents who have long since left their foreclosed homes are still on the hook for delinquent taxes, fines, and fees related to properties they no longer own, because buyers of those homes never filed deeds naming them as the new owners, an investigation by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has found.

From the story:

Former property owners who try to get their name off the records are often forced to ride a bureaucratic merry-go-round, referred from office to office only to be told there is nothing the city or county can do to help them. It took Timothy Boone two years to get his name off the tax bill of his former house in the 2800 block of N. 12th St. Boone said he called various government offices but was told he could not get his name removed unless Choudry, owner of Pak Properties LLC, filed the sheriff's deed with the county. Pak purchased the house for $9,500 in 2011.
