The Dental Board of California is taking more and more time to resolve issues of dentists’ misconduct despite an increase in the number of investigators looking into these cases, a U-T San Diego review found. While the goal of the board is to have disciplinary cases resolved within a year and half, the process can take twice that.
From the story: “The average last year was 1,185 days to complete a case, up from 929 in 2010, a U-T review of dental board data showed. That’s a 27 percent increase. The board has 26 investigators, up from 14 four years ago. They carry an average caseload of 45-55 cases — much higher than the 20 cases on average assigned to Medical Board investigators.”
