Violent patient behavior the norm at psychiatric hospital

The Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital is meant to alleviate violent behaviors in patients, but since the facility opened in July, there have been 59 violent acts against employees. Two to three incidents occur per week, according to one of the hospital’s physicians.

From the VT Digger story: “The old Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury had ongoing problems with patient violence and as a result was not able to provide a safe and therapeutic environment. Ultimately, the federal government pulled funding for the state hospital.”
