Job Description:
The digital producer will work closely with the director of digital strategy and audience development to manage the NECIR website, its social media platforms, and the design and implementation of visual and interactive elements for our major investigations.
We're looking for a skilled web producer who loves journalism and is eager to experiment with new techniques that capitalize on the digital transformation changing the profession.
The position has three main responsibilities:
1. Oversee the day-to-day production of our website and blog. This includes working with our reporting staff to post updates to the site, new blog posts and images, homepage changes, and design alterations.
2. Conceive and implement larger changes to site's structure, design and content. This would include participating in a redesign, for instance, or conceptualizing and rolling out new site features.
3. Working with our reporters to create innovative digital features as part our major investigations -- everything from timelines to explainers to infographics.
Skills Preferred:
WordPress familiarity.
Basic HTML coding required/Advanced preferred.
1-2 years of journalistic and digital experience.
Graphic design skills.
Basic Photoshop skills required/Advanced preferred.
Social Media content and strategy skills.
Web development and design skills.
Some experience creating infographics.
Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
This is a part-time, freelance position paid hourly. It will require a minimum of ten hours a week, but may require up to 25 when we are launching a new investigation.
