The New England Center for Investigative Reporting (NECIR) is a nonprofit investigative reporting newsroom based at Boston University and at the studios of WGBH News. Our mission is to ensure the survival of serious, in-depth investigative journalism in New England and to train a new generation of investigative reporters.
Internship Description:
The intern will work closely with the consulting director of digital strategy and audience development to research and write stories for the NECIR website, and create content for its social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and many others.

This is a chance for extensive hands-on experience in multimedia reporting and marketing -- writing, photography, video, interactive media.
You will be working on the cutting edge of new media storytelling -- and there will be many opportunities for you to propose new ideas and take on real responsibilities.
Tasks could include writing blog posts and stories, creating infographics, pitching stories to major media outlets, and moderating live web chats.
Skills Preferred:
Web research skills; strong knowledge of current events and investigative journalism; experience with social media tools, including Twitter and Facebook. Should be familiar with Mac OS, Microsoft Word and Excel.
We prefer candidates with strong visual experience including Photoshop and/or InDesign, as well as experience with photography and video editing.
Most importantly, we are looking for interns who take initiative to propose new ideas and projects.
Major(s) desired: English, journalism (print, broadcast and/or new media), media studies, history, economics, political science or marketing.
